The 2025 MLB season is officially underway! Today marked the opening day of this season, which included thrilling games and remarkable individual feats.
Let’s break down the key moments just in case you missed them.
Yankees triumph with historic leadoff run

The Yankees haven’t lost any momentum from last year, despite losing key players, namely Gerrit Cole. In a 4-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, Yankee Stadium experienced history.
Their starting catcher, Austin Wells, became the first catcher in MLB history to hit a leadoff run on opening day since 1900! In the first inning, Wells blasted the ball 347 feet to right field. Not to mention, he did so with facial hair!
Outside of history, Anthony Volpe made a good contribution with a solo homer, while Aaron Judge and newly acquired Cody Bellinger each had RBIs. Further, Anthony Rodon allowed just one run over 5.1 innings pitched, including seven strikeouts.
Astros edge Mets in tight contest

At the recently renamed Daikin Park, the Astros took a 3-1 win. Starting pitcher Framber Valdez recorded seven scoreless innings. Further, rookie Cam Smith felt at ease in his first major league game with a key single in the second inning, which set up the Astros’ first run.
In a tense ninth inning, closer Josh Hader struck out the man himself, Juan Soto, with bases loaded to secure the win.
Guardians outlast Royals in extra innings

The Guardians won a 7-4 game in the tenth inning. Kyle Manzardo was the standout performer, with four RBIs which came from a 2-run homer in the sixth, and a 2-run double in the tenth.
Steven Kwan hit a go-ahead RBI double while the bullpen held firm in the final inning to secure the dub.
Dodgers raise the banner and secures a victory
To celebrate last year’s World Series win, the Dodgers raised their 2024 banner before opening day against the Tigers.
The celebration energized the team to a 5-4 victory and a three-game win streak.
Opening day maestro

Tyler O’Neill, the Orioles’ outfielder, is no stranger to a successful opening day. With a home run in the third inning, O’Neill hit a homer in his sixth consecutive opening day home run, extending his own MLB record.
Today marked an exhilarating start for this season, giving fans a preview of what to expect in the months leading up to October.
