New York Jets Outlook: Can They Fly Back to Success?

The New York Jets face uncertainty after a disappointing 2023-’25 season, with potential changes ahead, including possible trades and draft picks, as Aaron Rodgers’ tenure nears its end.

It’s 6:40 in the morning, I’m sitting at the airport waiting for my plane to board, and I’m thinking about what’s coming for the New York Jets. I was in English class when Aaron Rodgers was making his Jets debut in 2023, and my teacher had not yet finished their sentence when it was over. Everyone thought the next 17 weeks of football would be the worst to come for the Jets (or all of New York for that matter), but the football script had something else in mind. Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle, and Trevor Siemian produced about 3000 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Yikes. 2024 should be better right? Joe Douglas seemed to think so.

Signing star Takk Mckinley, Haason Reddick, traded for Davante Adams and veteran Tyron Smith to help open Breece Hall’s C gap. Fast forward to today. January 3rd. If I’m thinking about them at this point, they’ve got to be generational right?

Well… they may be able to pick up a generational pick in the upcoming draft. Sitting at 4-12 (at best two wins worse than their 2023 year), they currently sit in the top ten for draft picks. But what will they do with their premier players they dumped loads of money into? A betting man, and anyone who goes on Twitter once, knows Rodgers’ tenure with the Jets is coming to an end. There’s no more guaranteed money in his contract, and with him gone, Adams is speculated to depart as well. The Jets are looking at a tough road ahead. Capital gone from making blockbuster moves, trust lost after losing conquests with winning caliber teams, and a premature, rough parting with Robert Saleh.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do next. Trade for draft capital? Sign younger players with an aging roster? Go into a darkness retreat? Only time will tell.
