The 2-11 New York Giants have had very few moments to celebrate the season thus far. Coming into the season, they lost all-pro running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley joined their division rivals, the Eagles (who set the Eagles single-season rushing record this week). To add to a rocky start of the season, the Giants quarterback room generated some drama, mainly due to the performance of Daniel Jones. Jones boasted a 63% completion percentage through 10 games. In those outings, he threw for 2070 yards, and a 8-7 TD/INT ratio. Not great. In the span of a week, he was demoted to fourth string quarterback, then to scout team safety, and ultimately cut by the team on November 22nd. Oh right. Can’t forget about the fact that he was being paid $40 million a year. All that to say, Giants fans have been through enough for ten years, in the span of six months.
Fast forward to today, December 8th. The 2-10 Giants come back to East Rutherford to take on the 5-8 New Orleans Saints. New York hasn’t experienced a win at Metlife since September 18, 2024. However, the Giants haven’t won a home game in over a year, their last home win coming on November 26, 2023.
Before today’s game, Giants fans made their unhappiness and frustration clear to owners, coaches and players. At around 11:30 this morning, a plane flew over MetLife with a flag reading “Mr. Amara enough – [please] fix this dumpster fire.”
Not a great look for the last place team in the NFC East.
The NY Giants found themselves the first team in the NFL to be eliminated from playoff contention. They currently sit in last place in the league, coming up to a stacked draft class showcasing generational talent. They have a range of choices including WR/CB Travis Hunter, RB Ashton Jeanty, QB Shadeur Sanders and many more. It will be interesting to see where the front office takes this team. Should they draft a support player? Then, search for a QB in free agency. Or should they start with a young QB and take it from there? Only time will tell, and we will see on April 24, 2024.
